Description:

Introduction This school in Soller is the only language school in the north-west of the island of Mallorca running English and German language classes. Soller is a working town of approximately 15,000 inhabitants with its own port and beach only 3km away. Both the port and the town are the focus of infrastructure improvements aimed at enhancing the local economy.

History

The school was founded in approximately 1995 and run very successfully before being sold in 2002. For health reasons the second owner had to return to the UK at short notice after running the school for only 5 months. The current owners re-furbished the school in early 2003 and have been re-building it as a family business ever since. They are now looking to sell the school on as one of them nears the end of a career break from a UK employer.

Location

The school has an excellent location on the second floor of a traditional Mallorquine building in Soller's picturesque main square. It occupies 100sq. mts., giving three attractive classrooms all with whiteboards, desks and chairs. The school has its own mobile language laboratory. There is a separate furnished office with a computer and shelf space. There are male and female toilets and additional storage space.

Publicly Funded Courses

The school has Balearic Island Government accreditation and has successfully run courses funded by the Government and the European Social Fund for many years. These Plan Fip courses are for the unemployed and part-time workers. As an accredited centre, staff at the school are also eligible to teach on similar courses hosted by other accredited centres.

The school is currently awaiting the outcome of its application for further Plan Fip courses. These 200 hour courses will run between October 2004 and April 2005, after which, the next tranche of courses would be applied for. As an accredited centre, Academia Mayfair can also run shorter Objective Three courses for employed people.

Other Courses

Over the last year school has run a variety of other English and German courses. These have included ESO, Bachillerato and Selectividad revision classes for children through to young adults. Courses for workers in estate agents, the hotel and catering industry and for those wanting to work abroad have been particularly popular. One of the most popular courses last year was a young children's English class.

An interesting area for a new owner to promote would be specific classes for hotels, banks, estate agents and other establishments in the local tourist sector. The Government of the Island recently announced financial incentives for companies to increase the training of workers and the schools status as an accredited centre could facilitate such training.

Lease

The existing owners occupy the building under the terms of a 12 month renewable lease and have an excellent relationship with the landlord. If preferred, a traspaso could be negotiated with and on behalf of a purchaser.

The Asking Price

The asking price includes the school as seen, apart from the text books, CDs and tapes which are the personal property of one of the owners. As part of the package the existing owners would be happy to give an agreed amount of time to the purchasers for guidance and assistance in the early stages.

Interested Parties

This business would suit two or more people interested in running a language school in one of the most beautiful parts of Mallorca. Some proficiency in dealing with enquiries and explaining about courses in Spanish would be very useful.
